Contents Page Analysis

The pursose of the contents page is to advertise what is in the magazine and give the reader an indication of where to find a certain article. It should be interesting and advertise the rest of the magazine well.

Double Page Spread Analysis

The purpose of a double page spread is to feature the main article of that issue. The article must reflect what has been advertised on the front cover of the magazine and be suitable with the genre of the magazine. The images are important as they are the first thing that readers will look at bofre they read the article and if they are interesting the article is more likely to be read.

Magazine Title

I have decided to call my magazine Bassment. I think this is appropriate because music has bass and because the magazine will focus on new and upcoming artists the word Basement is fitting as it shows the artists starting from the bottom and working their way up to being well know on the dance music scene. I think this would be a good idea because potential buyers will want to be the first to know about new music and artists and think that it is important to be up to date with their music.

Magazine Publishers

I have decided that my magazine will appeal to dance music fans, however because there don't seem to be any magazines that focus on new and upcoming artists I have researced mixmag's publisher to see if they could be potential publishers of my magazine which could act as a sister magazine to mixmag.

Mixmag is published by 'Development Hell' it aims to appeal to a wide range both male and felmae readers of a large age group. 'Development Hell also publishes 'The Word' magazine which I think is aimed at an older audience with a more mellow taste in music. It has had the likes of Morrissy and Jack Johnson on the front cover.

I think there would definately be room for Development Hell to publish my magazine and indroduce it onto the scene as a magazine which promotes new artists.

Evaluation of Project

After completing the project, overall I am happy with my work and feel that I have succeeded in my aim to create a genuine magazine that would appeal to a wide enough audience to be able to sell in shops.

I was the most disoppointed with my contents page because I did it last and ran out of time so I had to rush it which brought down the quality of the magazine and made it seem less genuine. I should have planned out my time more effectively to make sure I had time to finish the magazine.

I was the most happy with my images as I felt I had a model that fit the genre of the magazine and the colour scheme I used in my photoshoot reflected dance and vibrancy. I enjoyed working on photoshop editing, cutting and adding colour to the background of my images. I feel I worked effectively at this and was able to produce good quality work as a result.

I feel I could have spent more time in the research phase of my project to ensure that I carried out a thorough enough investigation to see whether there was a viable niche in the market for my magazine.

I was impressed with my article as I feel I was able to demonstrate impressive writing skills by adding humour and good play on words.
If I were to do the project again I would definately make sure I had more time to finish the magazine to the best of my abilty as I feel the contents page let my work down a little.

Overall I am very pleased with the end result of my project and it is a good reflection of the hard work I have put into media over the last ten weeks.

Audience Feedback Analysis

After gathering audience feedback on my magazine I have identified areas of the project I carried out well and factors that weren't carried out as effectively and could have been improved upon. I was happy to see that one reader picked up on my title which is 'Bassment' I have used bass instead of base because there is bass in music. I was also inpressed that readers got a feel of new music from the title because of the meaning of an actual basement to show that the artist are new and have come from nowhere.
When asked what type of music they thought the magazine focused on, one reader said R&B which i wasn't to pleased with because I wanted to create a dance element with the vibrant colours I used in the image on the front cover. However other readers did pick up on the dance element of the magazione which is what I was aiming for.
All my readers seemed impressed with how genuine the magazine was, saying it looked professional and the front cover was eye catching. The font and colour scheme were also positvely commented on saying they went well together.
However they felt my contents page needed improving by adding more text and making it as appealing as the front cover and double page spread.
My article was well liked and I was happy to see that the humour I had tried to place into the article had been picked up on. It was also said to be interesting and relevant to the magazine.
My audience were impressed with the layout of the text and also commented on how well the images had been set out.

Overall I feel this feedback is positive and reflects the hard work that I put into the project. However it also highlights the areas of the project that were weaker and what I need to improve on if I ever do something like this again.
